If you’d called into Eden Cottage on Friday June 25, you might have been surprised to see us all in our pj’s or onesies. It wasn’t because we’d woken up late. We were taking part in Visionwest’s Winter Warmers campaign.
Winter Warmers is a special fundraiser to help whānau in our community who might need extra support through the winter months when the increased cost of power and clothing can impact on finances.
Those who took part in Winter Warmers gained sponsorship for either walking a selected distance or wearing their onesie or pyjamas for an entire day. We chose to have a pj’s day and had a great time running around outside in our onesies, getting warm and cosy with blankets and pillows on the mat, and watching a short film.
There were also some awesome conversations between tamariki and teachers about what we are grateful for and what we have that others may be missing out on. The tamariki concluded that wearing a onesie wasn’t such a bad thing to do in order to help others.
We had great support from whānau who donated to the cause. Aiming to raise $500, we made it to almost $600! Our whānau mum Kirsty was our top donor. She said, “This is an amazing cause guys! I’m happy to help struggling families in need this winter.” Another mum, Nikita, said, “It’s a perfect day for a pj’s day! Great work Eden Cottage.”
Thanks to all our whānau who supported the Eden Cottage Onesie Day. We learned a lot about helping those who need some winter support and had a great time doing it!
