Eden Cottage was established in 1983 as a way to meaningfully support the growing number of young families in our community.

Over 40 years later, we remain so committed to partnering with parents and whānau to ensure our tamariki thrive that we have NO FEES*.

Our te reo name – Te Iti Kahurangi – speaks of the precious small treasures that our tamariki are – treasures who deserve our best educational care and aroha.

Based in a homely cottage setting, we are able to welcome up to 38 tamariki between the ages of 2-5 years to what will be their home away from home.

Our Purpose

To work alongside each one of our tamariki (children), with the partnership and support of whānau (caregivers), to help them in their spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical growth.

Our Aim

To provide an environment for our tamariki “to grow as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” – Te Whāriki.

Our Values

Aroha (Love) – Love of God, Love for others, Love for our nation, and Love of learning.
Manaakitanga (Kindness) – Love and care for self and others, self-care skills and perseverance.
Whanaungatanga (Relationship) – Social skills, and gentleness.
Mana (Respect and Dignity) – Our identity in Christ. Nurturing our God-given potential inside us.

Our Approach

Creativity – Every day we offer our tamariki opportunities for creative play and thinking, that are tailored to their interests. Through this creative play, we foster habits that encourage a curious mindset and instill a sense of wonder that drives them to question, explore, and investigate the world around them.
Persistence – We foster and instill in our tamariki the capacity to approach challenges with a positive attitude.
Collaborative approach to learning – We work alongside our tamariki to give them skills for communicating, discovering, and problem-solving together.
Discipline – We guide our tamariki towards the cultivation of a positive mindset that leads to growth and transformation.
Imagination – We encourage each tamariki to explore life’s possibilities and uncover the wonders of the world created by God.
